The “Illusio” dinnerware is inspired by the famous myth of Medusa, where the hero Perseus defeats the gorgon using the reflection of his shield to avoid being petrified by her gaze. Perseus' shield, with its ability to reflect Medusa's image, is an essential component, as it allowed the hero to dodge the curse and defeat the creature.
“Illusio” alludes to the deception that the reflection of Perseus' shield produced on Medusa's curse, transferring this idea to the culinary realm. Studies show that the perception of food is closely related to appetite satisfaction.
Several cognitive and sensory factors influence this satisfaction, including the reflex/mirror effect in tableware. Mirroring enhances our visual perception of food, allowing us to see not only the food on the plate, but also its reflection. This creates the illusion of a larger amount of food, tricking the mind and providing a feeling of satiety with less food.
“Illusio” is a tableware designed to trick the mind and the stomach, managing to satisfy the appetite with a smaller amount of food.
